In 1973 Spain compensated the village for the 1950 estimated value of each house. Then Spain built cheap, new apartment blocks higher on the hill and sold them to the uprooted villagers for four times what they gave them for their anscestral homes. Then Spain damned and flooded the valley, and built a new highway bridge to Madrid.
